JuRSE Code of the Month - March 2026

Each month we highlight a code from Forschungszentrum Jülich and this month's code is exaCB, developed at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC).

JuRSE Code of the Month - March 2026

exaCB
The exacb framework is a set of tools and configurations to enable Continuous Benchmarking (CB) on Supercomputers. With a given target application, it provides an easy common entry point to monitor application performance and collect data in a uniform manner.

JuRSE Code of the Month - March 2026

JuRSE selected highlights
exaCB is, in two ways, meta-research software: (1) it is a set of tools enabling good and fairly advanced RSE practices (here: continuous benchmarking) for other research software and (2) it played a key role in the installation of the exascale supercomputer JUPITER: exaCB orchestrated the early access applications of the JUREAP program, allowing well-defined and repeatable collective execution. exaCB builds up on the experience gained in the JUPITER Benchmark Suite, which was used to evaluate the vendor proposals for JUPITER. This unprecedented effort and success brought the team honorable mentions during the PoF review in 2025, plus some well-deserved attention beyond Helmholtz. Publishing this code, making it reusable, writing a proper summary paper about this journey, polishing the repository for others to not shy away, all of this is lots of additional work that comes on top of the day-to-day business. Doing all of that still may require some more time as of today, but the team is on track.
